Hussey powers CSK to victory

Chandigarh, April 19: Michael Hussey carved out an unbeaten 116 (58b, 8 x 4, 9 x 6) and spearheaded the Chennai Super Kings to a 33-run victory against Kings XI in their opening Indian Premier League Twenty20 fixture at the PCA Stadium in Mohali, here tonight.

It was a princely knock by Hussey who displayed the kind of touch, form and muscle that have earned him the No.1 spot among World’s batsmen. He made the best of two lives to take the Super Kings to a well-deserved victory.

Quite fittingly, Hussey was named Man of the Match for his knock that would not be forgotten in a hurry.

Batting first on winning the toss, the Super Kings made 240 for five, smashing 152 runs in the last 10 overs with Hussey guiding the innings with sure hands.

In reply, James Hopes (71 off 33) provided an excellent platform for Kings XI, but there was none to sustain the early momentum and though Kumar Sangakkara chalked up a fluent half-century (54), the target proved beyond reach of the home team as they finished their innings on 207 for four.
