is experiece and performance "NOT" important ?

Former India captains Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid, as well as classy middle-order batsman VVS Laxman are definitely still on the Indian selectors' radar for Test cricket, but when it comes to the one-day and Twenty20 formats, the selectors have made their preference for younger players known to all and sundry.

Laxman last played an ODI on December 3, 2006 against South Africa at Centurion, while Dravid's last appearence in the 50-overs format was against the Aussies in Nagpur in October 2007 and Ganguly last played an ODI for India against Pakistan in November 2007.

To be fair to Laxman, he hasn't been given a regular run in one-dayers, as can be gauged by the fact that he has featured on only 86 ODIs during his 12 years as an international cricketer, in which he scored 2338 runs including six centuries and 10 half-centuries at an average of 30.76 and a strike rate of 71.23.

Dravid and Ganguly, on the other hand, have both played more than 300 one-dayers, and have enjoyed immense success in this format of the game. Ganguly formed one half of the all-time greatest opening partnerships with Sachin Tendulkar in the 50-overs format, while Dravid changed his style of play to suit the requirements of one-day cricket. Both Dravid and Ganguly have also been successful captains for India in this format of the game.

But are the selectors just looking for younger team w/o considering experience of players who can be very handy and really moral giving players who have played 300+ games together.

Dravid has scored 10,585 runs in 333 ODIs with 12 centuries and 81 half-centuries at an average of 39.49, while Ganguly has 11,363 runs with 22 centuries and 72 half-centuries at an average of 41.02 along with 100 wickets to show from his 311 one-dayers.

Compairing Mr.sanath Jayasuraya from Sri-Lanka,a person with 38 Years with such a power and agrression in top form. But why is indian team still going with youngsters?
If we compare younger seeds average that with sourav and dravid,i guess dada's current average is better than anyone of the players in recent indian team.

one of the interview,Dada had said,"Performance mattars,Not the age" and i really support him with this.I really do.As he was in superb form when he made comeback last year.

I m eagerly waiting to see dada in one day squard as soon as possible

yeah true..but whats the point when india is loosing so badly..?

Seniors understand the pitches all aroud the world, quite properly..

i agree youngsters should be given scope, but indian selectors should follow "ROUND SELECTION" in which player in form retains the spot, and the others are dropped. and for the next season, new youngsters are given chances..and so on

i think as long s INDIA wins, no one should have any problem...
seniors have experience but youngsters have raw talent...if seniors guide young talent then both could be useful to each other...

but you posting about this and i commenting on this would make any difference...??

i think we should not forget the bhajji sree scenario...

and i think India always plays to win with team spirit...i think that counts...what happens behind scenes may be unimaginable...but y do we care about it...

How are we going to give the youngsters experience?

The youngsters have talent and it is just a matter of time before they become successful.

There is no need to hanker for the old hands.

youngsters r playin quite well in the field ...watching gals all the time...wenever i put on the match just for some time pass ..i watch yuvraj standing near to the stands always lookin for gals...he sucks..weras sri sasanth he thinks he is rockstar to be frank he is in the level of zero..dhoni is such a ****** that he is still behind depika who left 2 guys till now...

today youngsters r only concentratin on ads, gals and parties no palying is done on the field ...T20 is a match wer we dont need concentration just go hit and come..weras in 50 overs we need stability to stand in the ground as firm as a pole...i think the stability will be with dravid and sachin who now r not so good..

i dint want to critisise anyone but just gave a small explanation ..

hemant but still i feel that youngsters+seniors should be given simultaneous chances..!!

Win is nothing but a joy when team performs TOGETHER well...

but in india, its not so..i remember our 1983 indian team..wow really it was amazing team.....!!

I think I feel differently on this issue.
Though I am a big fan of Dravid I personally feel they have played enough and now its time 4 the younger generation to come 4ward.
But one more thing I feel is the players shud not be selected on the basis of their old glory instead the present performance shud be taken into consideration. and lik that the older players can also be selected.

Even If I don't completely agree wth u some of the point u have raised are worth.

keep posting.

I've blogrolled u.
