Google Wallet : Making Your Phone Your Wallet

Credit card,Debit card, Travel card, food card..whew..!! It never ends...Google has a innovative app which can be termed as a cool app to manage your wallet. Termed as 'Google Wallet' is a mobile app, it will do more than a regular wallet ever could. You'll be able to store your credit cards, offers, loyalty cards and gift cards, but without the bulk. When you tap to pay, your phone will also automatically redeem offers and earn loyalty points for you. Someday, even things like boarding passes, tickets, ID and keys could be stored in Google Wallet.Google is partnering with Citi, MasterCard, First Data and Sprint and merchants including Subway, Macy's, Walgreens and American Eagle Outfitters.

Together the services will work like this: Coupons for items you buy regularly will pop up on your phone, or an item that the store you're shopping at is out of will pop up on the phone and let you buy that item online. When you go to a store's cashier, you can wave your phone over a terminal, which will charge your card. Meanwhile your loyalty points with that merchant will be added to your phone. Eventually receipts will be delivered to your phone.

Google will begin initial field testing of Google Wallet in New York and San Francisco this summer

New Facebook Spam : 'Activate Dislike Button'

Arrgghhh...why is facebook turned as spambook ? i am unclear. This new scam is spreading fast on Facebook, announcing a “Dislike” button and offering to enable it on your account.
The Like button, and the ability to Like Facebook pages are popular tools. The Like feature provides a framework for users to help promote good content by voting for it with the Like button. However, many users wish they could also police bad content by giving it the thumbs down with a Dislike button.

The Facebook Dislike button scam works the same as many other viral messaging scams on Facebook. It eggs the recipient on by teasing--or imploring depending on the wording--that the Facebook friend has downloaded the "official DISLIKE button" and provides a link to download it and be part of the in-crowd.

Falling for any of these scams typically trick one into giving a rogue Facebook application permission to access your profile, posting spam messages from your account and asking you to complete an online survey.

What is the change in this spam method ?

This time around spammers have replaced the standard “Share” option with their “Enable Dislike Button” link—see the image below: “Like · Comment · Enable Dislike Button”.

In spite of Facebook efforts to block such scams they continue. I treat this spam is one of the most smartly coded spam attack as it doesn't even look like a spam, it would really spread highly if not taken caution against the same.

What is the remedy?

  1. As mentioned in my last post

Facebook Special - Protecting Facebook Spammers

, check for unwanted apps in app settings.
  2. Disable wall posts in case you wanna be secure ( not a very convenient idea though very secure)
  3. Don't click on any ads or answer any kind of online surveys.
  4. Install Bitdefender Safego for checking attack on facebook profiles.

Facebook Special - Protecting Facebook Spammers

I am sure everyone would be aware of this Facebook Spam attack and i too found near about 23 videos in less than 7 hours on my walls. Finally i decided to have a small case study over this spam attack and found some workaround to tackle this spam attack.

The video has a very smartly coded hidden JavaScript that activates moment its clicked. I actually clicked the video [ certainly using some dummy account] but using some safe surfing techniques and found some malwares were getting downloaded on to the local system. The caption is really termed nicely so that it inspires one to click on the link as soon as its been posted on the wall and then it ensure embarrassment too.

Some Tricks That i list to tackle this issue :
  • Well this is certainly not an idea but 99.9% gurentee that spammers wont attack. Disable the Wall posts from friends. I am sure most of you wont like this idea as wall being one of the major productive section of Facebook. But certainly, it leaks too many voids for attack and as said "Security is better than Being Attacked". To disable the wall posts, follow the figure discriptions as given below. Goto Account --> Privacy settings --> Customize Settings --> In the "Things others share" options, Uncheck "Friends can post on my Wall" check box.

  • Another issue that can lead to spam attack is , apps activation. Some Java Scripts are triggered in such a way that, they have access to your whole profile details and their settings reside in APPS Settings in Facebook Settings. Without knowing, they have their work at par and thus leading to spamming structure. It is essential that users be able to identify links that might smell spamming. However, if the user is not able to identify a possible spam link, best way is not to check it at all. I will now show how to disable Facebook unwanted apps and needs a regular check at this section to know things are fine.Goto Account --> Privacy settings --> Apps and Websites--> Click Remove --> Select "Edit Settings" corresponding to that app that needs to be removed (in my case Twitter) --> and finally click "Remove App"  Uncheck "Friends can post on my Wall" check box.

Step 1

Step 2

Step 3

  • I use Bit Defender for my laptop ( My Previous XP Laptop) and Bitdefender has a facebook app called as "Facebook Safego".Posting unlimited links, inbox messages and many more, we sometimes are not sure whether that link is safe or is not.Using in-the-cloud scanning, BitDefender safego keeps your social networking account safe so that you and your PC don't get into e-trouble. An efficient BitDefender spam repellent also helps keep your message flow free from this kind of Spams and many more. And that's not all. With BitDefender safego you get a privacy rating that tells you whether you're an easy prey on the personal data theft front as well.

Sync "Bitdefender Safego" With your Facebook by clicking this link

Some Other Minor Tricks To Be Safe Facebook user:

  • Don't accept unwanted friend request.
  • Have a secure connection ( HTTPS instead of HTTP ).
  • Do not post unwanted images, videos on friends walls.
  • Don't use apps that mean spamming motto or any unwanted app shouldn't be synced to FB account
  • Don't click any unwanted links etc.

Finally, i will show up the demo run of Bitdefender Safego on my profile. Its got very cool UI and checks inbox, comments, wall and many more. It looks like a stabilizer to me..ROFL.I am sure you will enjoy using this app :

Facebook @ No Internet

Bharti Airtel has launched a USSD-based service that ensure users to access Facebook without using the Internet or activating GPRS capabilities. Singapore-based software applications developer U2opia Mobile has developed this new application for mobile phones.
"We are using USSD technology, which will enable users to access Facebook without having a GPRS connection on their phones" said Sumesh Menon, the co-founder and CEO of U2Opia Mobile.

Unstructured Supplementary Data (USSD) is the technology used by telecom players to send alerts to their users that inform them about their balance at the end of call or for sending miss call alerts.

Even the Fb load is high at peak hours, Menon mentioned that though the technology will not provide access to graphics, it will help users send and view updates on their friends'' Facebook walls.the service is like a sms and an user can receive alerts on activity happening on his wall as well post an update.

While Airtel customers can update their Facebook status through this USSD service free of cost, Rs 1 per day will be applicable for accessing the full-feature application, which enables viewing news feeds, commenting on or liking news feed stories, posting on friends'' walls, confirming friend requests, viewing notifications and finding as well as adding friends.

Airtel users can dial *325# and *fbk# for non-qwerty mobile handsets to access Facebook without subscribing to data plans..

Chromebook - Nothing But Web

Instant web
Chromebooks boot in 8 seconds and resume instantly. Your favorite websites load quickly and run smoothly, with full support for the latest web standards and Adobe® Flash®. In fact, Chromebooks are designed to get faster over time as updates are released.

Always connected

It's easy to get connected anytime and anywhere with built-in Wi-Fi and 3G. As your Chromebook boots up, it quickly connects to your favorite wireless network so you're on the web right from the start. 3G models include a free 100 MB per month of mobile data from Verizon Wireless so you can keep working around home and on the go.

Same experience everywhere

Your apps, documents, and settings are stored safely in the cloud. So even if you lose your computer, you can just log in to another Chromebook and get right back to work.

Amazing web apps

Every Chromebook runs millions of web apps, from games to spreadsheets to photo editors. Thanks to the power of HTML5, many apps keep working even in those rare moments when you're not connected. Visit the Chrome Web Store to try the latest apps, or just type in a URL. No CDs required.

Friends let friends log in

Chromebooks are easy to share with family and friends. They can log in to experience all of their own Chrome settings, apps, and extensions, or use Guest Mode to browse privately. Either way, no one else using your Chromebook will have access to your email and personal data.

Forever fresh
Your Chromebook gets better and better over time, unlike a traditional PC. When you turn it on, it updates itself. Automatically. All of your apps stay up-to-date, and you get the latest and greatest version of the operating system without having to think about it. Annoying update prompts not included.

Security built in

Chromebooks run the first consumer operating system designed from the ground up to defend against the ongoing threat of malware and viruses. They employ the principle of "defense in depth" to provide multiple layers of protection, including sandboxing, data encryption, and verified boot.

The Foodlets..Delicious Food "IT" way

The Concept

Foodlets is a social network for food lovers. They connect food lovers with good food over a visual medium - you get to see what food is served in restaurants.

Foodlets is a location aware service - i.e. all the food can be located on a city map. Foodlets will be launching a mobile app which will be the primary means of usage of Foodlets service.

Foodlets is based on the core concepts of content co-creation and sharing. Food lovers can create foodlets and share with friends, they can affirm(testify) the food they have eaten and loved, and also tell their experience about a particular dish. Alternatively restaurant owners can create visual menus for their food and engage with food lovers.

The Motivation

There are dozens of restaurant review and online ordering services in India. Foodlets found 2 major shortcomings with these services

1) They focus on the restaurants and not on individual dishes.
2) They are heavily text based and users don't get to see how the food looks.

Foodlets understand very well that a food dish by itself has its identify, recipe, fanbase, history and mostly importantly people’s memories associated with it. In Goa chicken cafreal at Florentine (Saligao) and the ras omlettes available on roadside stalls have a cult following.

Key Features on Foodlets

  • Search for a particular dish at a restaurant
  • Follow other food lovers and restaurants to stay updated about the new food
  • Affirm a dish to tell the community that you ate and loved it
  • Add a dishes to your wishlist

Beta Launch

Foodlets beta was released on 17th April 2011. Before the beta foodlets has a prototype online to test the feasibility and acceptance of the concept.

Upgrades :

  • A beautiful looking web site & new page layouts
  • New logo and icons
  • Easy navigation and modal windows
  • Compact JS/CSS and Ajax for faster page downloads
  • Larger food photo on the product page for better viewing
